SOUTHWEST PASS, La. (KLFY) -- The captain of a sailboat that was sinking between Vermilion Bay and the Gulf of Mexico was rescued by members of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Division last weekend, authorities said.

Lt. Kevin Hebert and Cpl. Cody Waldmann were called out to Southwest Pass in reference to a sinking sailboat. Hebert and Waldmann kept communication with the sailboat's captain until his vessel was located near Marsh Island. The captain and all his belongings were secured and safely removed from the sailboat prior to departure from the sinking vessel, officials said

Hebert and Waldmann remained with the captain until Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents arrived on scene for the captain's transport to Quintana Marina.

The captain's name or the reason why the boat was sinking were not released.
