ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — Gov. Kathy Hochul addressed New Yorkers alongside Attorney General Letitia James. They congratulated the winners of the 2024 General Election and highlighted preparations they've taken to uphold the rights of New Yorkers going forward.

Hochul spoke first:

"We honor the results of this election and we'll work with anyone who wants to be a partner in achieving the goals of our administration and our state," she said. "That does not mean we'll accept an agenda from Washington that strips away the rights that Americans have long enjoyed."

Hochul also celebrated the passage of Proposition 1 in New York and announced the Empire State Freedom Initiative, which she said was "focused on key areas that are likely to face threats from the Trump Administration." Those, she said, include reproductive rights, civil rights, immigration, gun safety, labor rights, LGBTQ rights, and environmental justice.

James spoke next:

"My office has been preparing for several months," she said. "We've been here before. We've faced this challenge before. And we use the rule of law to fight back."
