Rep. Mike Lawler wins reelection to House in NY-17

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler has been reelected to New York’s 17th Congressional District, beating Mondaire Jones in a highly contentious House race.

The Republican represents northern Westchester County, Rockland and Putnam counties, and a small portion of southern Dutchess County. It’s one of the seven swing districts in New York that could impact the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Lawler was first elected to the district in 2022. Jones represented NY-17 from 2021-2022 but after a contentious redistricting process, briefly moved to New York City to run for NY-10 and lost the Democratic primary.

In this election, NY-17 was one of a few swing districts that could rebalance the chamber’s small Republican majority. NY-18 and NY-19 are also swing districts.

During his campaign, Lawler’s positions have included expanding the child tax credit, more funding for law enforcement, border security, and support for Israel.

On Friday, PIX11 News hosted a debate between Lawler and Jones, where Lawler laid out his position on key issues like New York’s SALT tax, the economy, and abortion.
