How Excited Does Melania Look to Vote?
For many voters, Election Day is a momentous, if not panic-filled, occasion — a time to “rock the vote,” exercise your civic duty, or, if you’re Jack Schlossberg, repost thirst traps about yourself on Instagram. But for Melania Trump, the former First Lady and wife to Republican nominee Donald J. Trump, today appears to be one of mourning, apathy, or perhaps a head-splitting hangover.

The recent memoirist continued her 2024 election-cycle strategy of doing the least (and sometimes, doing nothing at all) by accompanying her husband to a Palm Beach polling center, where he voted for himself. Arriving straight from their residence at Mar-a-Lago, per the New York Times, Melania stood by the former president as he addressed press onsite, keeping her sunglasses on indoors for the majority of the appearance. Wearing a black polka-dot dress, black pumps, and a sullen expression, Mrs. Trump seemed either exasperated that she had to leave the house for this or helplessly hung-over. Certainly, fluorescent overhead lights in a gymnasium would have me reaching for the biggest pair of sunglasses I owned if I were drinking my way through a high-stakes election.

Much like her daughter-in-law Ivanka, Melania seemed so checked out on Tuesday that Twitter was convinced Trump had brought a low-budget stand-in for his wife. “I’m glad they brought back Fake Melania for the season finale,” one person wrote, while another commented that “Donnie couldn’t find Melania today,” opting instead for a body double. As fun as that theory is, it’s more likely that the woman next to Donald Trump is indeed the real Melania and that she’s just sick of having to make public appearances that have nothing to do with her magnum opus. It’s sort of the perfect sequel to her “I really don’t care, do u?” fashion statement. We probably should’ve believed her the first time.
