Margot Robbie's Net Worth in 2024 Is Unbelievably Enormous

0

When you think of Margot Robbie, you probably picture a stunning blonde with an Australian accent best known for her breakout role as Naomi Lapaglia in Wolf of Wall Street and, of course, Barbie (because who better?) in the hit Greta Gerwig film. But did you know the breakout actress is also a mega-millionaire thanks to her several high-paying roles (Barbie included)—and her lesser-known producing chops behind the camera? At just 34 years old the I, Tonya actress and filmmakers has worked alongside some of the top names in the industry like Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and more. So yeah, no surprise she's made the big, big bucks.

From her breakout role in Wolf of Wall Street to her recent role as Barbie in the massive Greta Gerwig movie, here's everything we know about how Margot Robbie made her fortune.

Margot Robbie Got Her Start in Australian Soap Operas

While we know her now as the blonde pink queen of Barbieland, Robbie actually got her start in slightly less glamourous work. From 2008 to 2010, the Australian native starred in the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours, in which she played Donna Freedman, a Ramsay Street favorite who can only be described as beautiful, fiery, and a little kooky. While Robbie left after only a few years on the show to pursue a career in Hollywood, she made a quick reappearance on the show in 2022 when the series ended after 37 years and 8,903 episodes.

Robbie Made Her First Big Break in Wolf of Wall Street

In 2011, she starred in the short-lived ABC drama Pan Am, playing a 1960s stewardess on an aircraft alongside actresses Christina Ricci, Karine Vanasse, and Kelli Garner. While the series only lasted one season, just two years later, Robbie landed the role of Naomi Lapaglia, the second wife of stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leo DiCaprio) in Martin Scorsese's Wolf of Wall Street.

While this role wouldn't quite make her a household name, she was definitely noticed thanks to the Scorsese film's success. Her thick Brooklyn accent in the role and memorable lines ("From now on, it's going to be nothing but short, short skirts around the house") gained her popularity among fans, too. But financially, her role didn't earn her as much as you'd think. In fact, according to unconfirmed reports, she made just $347,000 for her spot in the film.

Her Salary Skyrocketed Over Time

For years, Robbie was not quite movie-star wealthy. Sure, she made more than the average person does in one year for one film, but as far as Hollywood goes, she wasn't exactly sitting pretty until several years ago. Luckily, the actress lives (or at least lived) a fairly normal life free of glitz and glamor and prides herself on being economical.

“I will never sell my soul for a paycheck,” Robbie said in a 2014 interview with Vanity Fair. “I don’t need the money because I’m not extravagant. I share my house in London with five roommates. I take the Tube—it’s free entertainment! I intend to stay the exact same person I always was; my family and friends keep me grounded.”

But since her time on Australian soaps and her first buzzy roles, Robbie has made her a very handsome sum of money starting with her role in The Legend of Tarzan, which came out in 2016. Although Tarzan was slammed by critics, it's estimated to have earned $357 million worldwide. While we aren't sure the exact number Robbie made from the film, various outlets report it's one of her highest-paying gigs to date.

The same year as The Legend of Tarzan, Robbie starred in Suicide Squad as Harley Quinn, the Joker's sidekick/love interest in DC Comics. A few years later, she went on to star in Suicide Squad's sequel The Suicide Squad and the spin-off Birds of Prey, for which she reportedly earned a whopping $10 million paycheck. (Hey, in Hollywood these days, comic book cash is big cash.)

Up to this point, Robbie had made a nice living, but in 2023, her work went into the stratosphere. As the central star (and a producer) of Barbie, she entered Hollywood's top-earning echelon. According to Variety, the film is estimated to have made $1.18 billion globally—including $526.3 million at the domestic box office and $657.6 million globally. Of that enormous chunk of change, the magazine reports that Robbie made roughly $50 million in salary and box office bonuses.

Robbie's hustle as a producer behind the scenes has been key to her rise, even if it's lesser-known than her performing work. She and husband Tom Ackerley cofounded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014, and under that banner have produced not just Barbie, but also I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman, and Saltburn, along with the the Hulu series Dollface and the Netflix miniseries Maid.

What Is Margot Robbie's Salary?

As of 2024, Margot Robbie has an estimated $60 million net worth. This is said to be $20 million more than what she was estimated at a year ago, undoubtedly due to the rumored $50 million she earned from her top role in Barbie, both in front of and behind the camera.
