‘Fingers crossed’, Sam Curran opens up on potentially facing brother Ben in ENG vs ZIM one-off Test 2025
New Delhi: England’s all-rounder Sam Curran recently shared his hopes of seeing his brother Ben Curran represent Zimbabwe on the international cricket stage. Sam expressed that it would be “cool” to compete against his brother at the highest level, making it a unique family moment. Their father, Kevin Curran, a well-regarded cricketer, played for Zimbabwe during his career, adding a layer of sentimental value to the prospect. Sam believes that if Ben were to join Zimbabwe’s national team, it would honor their family’s legacy and make for a special showdown on the field.4
Kevin Curran played 11 ODIs for Zimbabwe from 1983 to 1987 and was a key member of the team during the 1983 World Cup in England. In a landmark victory at Trent Bridge, he contributed 27 runs and took the crucial wicket of Allan Border, helping Zimbabwe secure a memorable win over Australia.
With England and Zimbabwe scheduled for a one-off four-day Test in Nottingham next year, Sam Curran expressed his excitement at the prospect of his brother Ben potentially opening the innings for Zimbabwe. “It would be cool to see him walking out for the tourists,” the 26-year-old shared with reporters on Wednesday, as quoted by The Telegraph.
“I’d love to. It will be pretty weird, and I guess my mum will be pretty nervous if it does happen. It will be special with my dad and family history and stuff like that, and we will be incredibly proud of him. So, fingers crossed. The last 10-12 years, my dad would have been looking down on us playing. And, fingers crossed, Ben can walk out and open the batting at Trent Bridge against England, which will be pretty cool.”
Ben, who plays as a top-order batter for Northamptonshire, has played 43 first class matches and averages 33.68 with 2257 runs.
