ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Democrat Paul Tonko has won reelection in New York’s 20th congressional district. The Associated Press has called the race for Tonko over Republican challenger Kevin Waltz.

"I am honored to have NY-20 voters placing their trust in me once again," said Tonko in a statement after AP called the race. "Throughout this campaign, I've heard from families across our district about the issues that matter most: creating good-paying jobs, making healthcare more affordable, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and ensuring our children have access to quality education."

New York’s 20th congressional district includes Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga Counties. This is Tonko's ninth term in Congress.

In his candidate interview with NEWS10, Tonko said he was hoping to pass a bill to prevent mobile sports betting companies from targeting young people.

Waltz's policy platform included ensuring public safety, securing the southern border, affordability, addressing the opioid and mental health crisis, a smart energy policy, protecting social security, Medicare and veterans services, and supporting small businesses and farmers.
