MMO Free Agent Prediction Contest

0

The 2024 offseason kicked off on Monday night with the deadlines for teams to give out the qualifying offer and options being decided on, and players can now sign with two teams after the five-day exclusive window.

The Mets handed out three of the 13 qualifying offers to lefty Sean Manaea, righty Luis Severino and slugging first baseman Pete Alonso. The Mets also officially declined the $7.75 million option for righty Phil Maton and Manaea declined his $13.5 million option for 2025.

We’ve decided here at MMO we would like to give our readers the opportunity to show off their baseball knowledge for the ultimate bragging rights and at least three prize packs. We will be giving away bobbleheads, MMO swag and Mets tickets to the top three finishers, and might extend the prizes if we get a ton of folks to submit their predictions.

Entering will be easy, copy and paste out list of 25 players to a comment and then write next to them the team you think they will end of signing with. The deadline to enter is Friday, November 8, at 7 p.m. ET. We will crown the winners once we have a resolution on all 25 player.

Here at the 25 players–not necessarily all the top free agents from this offseason as we wanted to mix in as many Mets as made sense.

  1. OF Juan Soto – He turned 26 last month and is one of the best players on the planet. I would expected Steve Cohen to put in a hefty bid of the star outfielder.
  2. RHP Corbin Burnes – The 30-year-old was much better in the first half (2.43 ERA) than he was in the second half (3.69 ERA)
  3. LHP Blake Snell – The two-time Cy Young winner posted a 3.12 ERA and had 145 strikeouts in 104 innings this year for the Giants.
  4. 3B Alex Bregman – The 30-year-old struggled to start the 2024 season, but he finished with a .883 OPS over the last two months of the season.
  5. LHP Max Fried – The 30-year-old has a 3.07 career ERA and his 174 innings pitched this year were the second highest of his career.
  6. RHP Roki Sasaki – Still a question of whether or not the 23-year-old will be posted this offseason. You can choose his current team in the predictions.
  7. SS Willy Adames – The 29-year-old set career-highs this season in doubles (33), home runs (32), RBIs (112) and stolen bases (21).
  8. 1B Pete Alonso – The slugger might’ve at least partially saved his 2024 season with a .999 OPS in the postseason for the Mets.
  9. RHP Jack Flaherty – The 29-year-old had a 3.17 ERA between the Tigers and Dodgers in the regular season, but struggled in the postseason to the tune of a 7.36 ERA over five starts.
  10. LHP Sean Manaea – Was fantastic for the Mets after changing his arm slot and posted a career-high 200 innings between the regular season and postseason.
  11. OF Anthony Santander – The right fielder and DH picked a good time to set career-highs with 44 home runs and 102 RBIs.
  12. LHP Yusei Kikuchi – The veteran lefty ended up being one of the best trade deadline acuqisitios when he posted a 2.70 ERA in 10 starts for the Astros.
  13. OF Teoscar Hernández – The 32-year-old had a big season for the Dodgers with a 134 wRC+ and a career-high 33 home runs.
  14. 1B Christian Walker – The 33-year-old enters free agency with three strong offensive seasons. In that time, he hit 95 home runs and knocked in 281 runs.
  15. RHP Luis Severino – The veteran righty pitched a career-high 196 innings between the regular and postseason. The Mets extended a QO, and we may have to take this answer out if he accepts.
  16. OF Jurickson Profar – The 31-year-old had a career-best 4.3 fWAR this season, way higher than his previous high of 2.4 in 2022.
  17. LHP Tanner Scott – The high-leverage reliever followed up a career-year in 2023 (2.31 ERA, 12 saves) with another career-year (1.75 ERA, 22 saves) this season.
  18. RHP Jeff Hoffman – Another reliever coming off a career-year, Hoffman had a 2.17 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 66 innings.
  19. RHP Nathn Eovaldi – The veteran right-hander finished his 2024 season pitching at least 170 innings for only the third time in his 13-year career.
  20. OF Tyler O’Neill – The 29-year-old had a huge bounceback season with 31 home runs in only 411 at-bats with the Boston Red Sox.
  21. RHP Walker Buehler – The 30-year-old struggled through the regular season and his first start of the postseason, but went 12 scoreless over his last three outings of the year, including picking up the save in the World Series clinching game.
  22. LHP Jose Quintana – The veteran lefties strong second half was a huge reason why the Mets made the playoffs and he had two scoreless starts in the postseason.
  23. RHP Clay Holmes – The former Yankees closer had 74 saves over the last three seasons.
  24. OF Joc Pederson -The veteran outfielder had a big season with the D-Backs posting a 3.0 fWAR, his highest since 2016.
  25. INF Ha-Seong Kim – The strong middle infield defender has posted an wRC+ of at least 101 in three straight seasons.

Two bonus predictions features picking where two former Mets will be playing in 2025: INF Jose Iglesias and OF Jesse Winker. For a total of 27 predictions. Finally, our tiebreaker is predicting the contract of the biggest catch of the offseason–Juan Soto.

Thank you to Mr. North Jersey for keeping track of all the predictions!
