‘Deliberate attempt’: Bomb threats suspended voting at 5 Georgia sites

Additional bomb threats targeting DeKalb County, Georgia in the final hours of Election Day forced the temporary closure of five more voting sites in the heavily-Black county that overwhelming voted for President Joe Biden in 2020.

According to media reports, police evacuated and cleared several precincts after Russian-linked bomb threats were made Tuesday afternoon. DeKalb is the fourth most populous county in the critical swing state, and includes the Atlanta metro area.

“Every asset that we have will be deployed to ensure that every citizen who wants to vote will be given that opportunity and every vote cast will be counted,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said in a statement Tuesday.

The county’s voter registration & elections chief said the affected voting locations were suspended “out of an abundance of caution,” and added that officials would reopen the sites once clearance is given from DeKalb police.

Voting closed at 7 p.m. ET in Georgia. It's unknown if affected areas had their hours extended.

“Black voters are under attack in Georgia by foreign adversaries making false bomb threats,” law professor Anthony Kreis wrote on social media. “Get out there and vote Georgia ASAP -- and if you're in line, stay in line.”
