Tom Grennan gives major update on new album as he reveals how he’ll celebrate if he gets Christmas No1

HE is the clean-living, super-fit hunk of a pop star who only last month completed a 140-mile Ironman triathlon.

But British star Tom Grennan is now laser focused on his next challenge, scoring the Christmas No1, followed by a two-week bender in celebration if he clinches it.

In an exclusive chat with Bizarre’s Howell Davies as he launched his Amazon original tune It Can’t Be Christmas, he said: “I’m not going for Christmas No2. I’m definitely going for No1.

“Imagine, Christmas day and finding out you’ve gone to No1? I’m going out, out. Christmas day, I’m having it up.

“I’m pretty strict most of the year. And I used to be strict all year round. But I’ve kind of finally found peace with who I am and what I am and where I need to be and what I need to do.

“So if I have a Christmas No1, I’m telling you, bro, I ain’t seeing you for a week or two. I’ll have a good time.”

With seven weeks to go until Christmas, things are looking good for Tom, with bookmakers William Hill putting him as the favourite to top the charts in front of Mariah Carey and 2023’s seasonal No1, Last Christmas by Wham!.

And there could be more to hear.

On writing his single at the height of summer, he said: “I was like, right, I wanna go somewhere really hot.

“I rang up my friend, (songwriter) Justin Tranter, and I said, ‘I’m coming to LA, we need to write a Christmas song’.

“We wrote four or five, I think. Definitely they’ll get heard. You never know, Christmas albums and whatnot. But right now, It Can’t Be Christmas is the one that needs to be heard.”

And although that kicked off what will be a hectic few weeks of campaigning to get to No1, he is raring to go with his fourth studio album next year.

Tom explained: “The album’s done, which I’m really, really excited for.

“This time, I absorbed loads of music. I listened to my own music too and just kind of saw myself going down a little bit of a lane.

Tom was in charge of the nation’s first Christmas lights switch on at London’s Oxford Street on Monday night, joined by a little girl called Emily Mullen who is being supported by Great Ormond Street Hospital after being born with a severe heart condition.

“It’s like, nah, I don’t wanna do that. I wanna try and reinvent myself, and my sound, and put out music that I really love.

“And I feel like I’ve done that this time, and I’m excited.

“It’s gonna be a big year, hopefully next year.”

I’m looking forward to it already.
