Saratoga Springs girls soccer wins first title in over three decades
NISKAYUNA, NY (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga Springs girls soccer team hadn't won a section title in over three decades. The Blue Streaks changed that Monday night.
Saratoga Springs pulled the upset as the two-seed over top-seeded Shaker, 1-0 the final. Senior Keegan Reinhart tallied the lone goal of the game for the Blue Streaks early in the first half. "It means so much," said Reinhart. "I'm so proud of the team. I mean, we really won this as a whole and we've been waiting for this all season. Once I put that goal in I knew that we had the game and I'm just really, really excited."
"From the very start they dubbed themselves the 'Toga Dream Team,'" said head coach Adrienne Dannehy. "We've been riding that. They have had their sights set on sectional championships the whole season and all we've done is work for that. To see them accomplish that today is absolutely unbelievable and I couldn't be more proud of those girls."
Junior Olivia Goodman pitched a shutout for the Blue Streaks. "We've all grown up with each other," said Goodman. "We know each other the best. We all have very strong connections. The chemistry is really good. We are definitely the dream team. That is a good word for it."
