'We're extremely offended': PA exit poll of key constituency spells bad news for Trump

0

Former President Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally insulting Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage" may well prove to be a fatal blow to his campaign, as Puerto Rican voters in one of the most important battleground states are now fired up to turn out against him.

This was highlighted by a report on MSNBC, where reporters checked in on voters in Allentown, home to a huge population of Puerto Rican voters — and were met with anger at the former president.

"We're extremely offended," one voter said. "Puerto Rico might be a small island, but our pride is extremely large. It's humongous. So once you offend one, you offend all."

Surrogates for Vice President Kamala Harris in the area are seizing on the moment to fire up voters for maximal engagement. According to Sabrina Rodriguez of The Washington Post, during a rally in Allentown in the final hours before Election Day, Mayor Matt Tuerk referenced the "island of garbage" line and proclaimed, "Puerto Rico se respeta." The crowd responded by whipping out Puerto Rican flags.

Nor are these anecdotal incidents the only evidence something big is brewing — it's showing up in the polling data as well.

According to reporter Adrian Carrasquillo, an exit poll focused on early voters suggests that since the Madison Square Garden rally, Latino voters have shifted toward Harris by 9 points.

"The change is driven by increased turnout of Dems and undecideds supporting Harris. This point is key. Of course undecided voters were making up their minds over last week. But as they were, they had a major unforced error by the Trump campaign, an attack on their home/dignity."

"Democrats would not still be beating this horse if it wasn’t a boon for them and one of the major unforced errors in modern campaigns," he added in a post to X. "I’m told @NuestroPAC is texting 87,000 Puerto Ricans who still haven't voted yet a last minute text TODAY."
