Is top four more important than a trophy? Ange Postecoglou’s blunt answer

0

Ange Postecoglou has given a confident response when asked if winning a trophy is more important than finishing in the top four this season.

Spurs fans prefer silverware

If you asked Tottenham fans the same question, the vast majority of them would say that they would prefer to see the club lift a piece of silverware this season.

That is understandable as while they have seen their side finish in the top four numerous times over the last decade and a half, silverware has eluded them for the last 16 years.

Postecoglou would undoubtedly become a hero if he is the man to break that hoodoo but the Australian is quite clear on what he is aiming at.

Ange Postecoglou’s verdict on top four vs trophy

Postecoglou has now refused to prioritise one over the other, insisting that he will always want the club to try to do as well as possible in every competition that they are in.

With Spurs now just one game away from a Carabao Cup semifinal, the Tottenham head coach was asked if the focus is now on silverware over a top-four finish, and he responded (via Football.London): “No, no. I want it all. I want it all, mate. I want everything.

“And it sets me up for people to maybe ridicule me at the end of the year because I said I want it all and I fall short of that, but I’ll take the biggest one [check] I can and see what comes out of it. We’ll go for everything.”

Europa League should be prioritised

Tottenham have been guilty of not taking the Europa League seriously over the last couple of decades. The last time they had a serious go at the competition was when Martin Jol was in charge, but that has to change this season.

Spurs are one of the favourites to go all the way in the tournament and winning it has the additional benefit of Champions League qualification.
