Brush fire burns near Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx: FDNY
BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A brush fire broke out near the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx during the Monday morning commute, according to the FDNY.
The fire broke out near East 233rd Street around 7:45 a.m., fire officials said. Firefighters started putting out pockets of fire, but the large brush fire was still burning just before 9 a.m., according to the FDNY.
Videos posted to Citizen show smoke billowing out above trees as the fire burned.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for New York City last week, meaning there was a high risk of fire spreading due to high winds. The warning is no longer in effect.
