0

Authorities reported that an old passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine in northern India on Monday, resulting in at least 24 deaths and several injuries.

The incident occurred in the Almora region of the mountainous Uttarakhand state, where the bus was carrying 42 passengers.

Vinit Pal, a state official, confirmed that 24 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage. Rescue teams have been deployed to the site, and officials noted that the death toll may rise as the search continues.

Pal stated that the state government has initiated an investigation into the accident, revealing that initial reports suggest the aging bus skidded into a gorge approximately 60 meters deep before the fall.

India has the highest road traffic fatality rate in the world, with hundreds of thousands killed or injured each year. Most accidents are attributed to driver negligence, poor road conditions, and outdated vehicles.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures and the replacement of aging public transport vehicles to prevent similar accidents in the future.

As investigations unfold, it is crucial for authorities to address the underlying issues contributing to India’s road safety crisis.
