Section 2 offers update on Class D Football Sectional Tournament after Lake George/Warrensburg/Bolton cancels season

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Saturday, NEWS10 learned the Lake George/Warrensburg/Bolton football season would be canceled. The school districts made the decision after an alleged incident of sexual misconduct that reportedly took place on a district bus several weeks ago, and involved inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature towards a student.

Section 2 provided new information Sunday regarding what the cancellation means for the Class D Football Sectional Tournament.

Section 2 president Matthew Stein sent out an update saying Greenwich would move up to the one-seed, Cambridge/Salem to the two, Stillwater to the three and Chatham would've been in line for the four-seed.

However, Stein was informed that both Chatham and Rensselaer/Loudonville Christian - the other remaining team in Class D - were unable to meet the NYSPHSAA Minimum Eligible Player Rule for football, which requires teams to have 16 eligible players. So, both programs are unable to participate in the postseason, meaning the bracket will include just three teams.

As the bracket now stands, Greenwich will receive a bye straight through to the championship game, and Stillwater will travel to Cambridge/Salem for the lone Class D semifinal game on Friday, Nov. 8.
