Four Afghan workers detained in Iran for lack of work permits

0

Officials in Iran reported the arrest of four Afghan workers for lacking work permits at a dairy production unit in Yazd. The Yazd Health and Treatment Network urged food establishments to refrain from employing foreign nationals.

On Sunday, November 3, Iranian state media announced the detainment of Afghan citizens at a dairy factory in Mehriz. Law enforcement and environmental health experts conducted a joint inspection of the facility, leading to the arrests.

The director of the Mehriz Health and Treatment Network stated, “According to labor law, foreign nationals without a temporary work permit or card are not allowed to work in the country. Employers who hire them are considered violators and will face penalties.”

Iranian authorities emphasized that employing migrants in dairy stores and food outlets is also prohibited. Recently, the Iranian government has classified the employment of undocumented Afghan migrants as a crime, accelerating the deportation process.

Furthermore, the Iranian Agricultural Jihad Organization in Kermanshah Province has declared the employment of “unauthorized” Afghans in the agricultural sector illegal.

The situation for Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan is increasingly dire, marked by forced deportations and a lack of legal protections. Many face discrimination and limited access to basic services, further exacerbating their plight.

As regional tensions rise, the vulnerability of these refugees highlights the urgent need for comprehensive policies to safeguard their rights and provide humanitarian assistance. Without such measures, their future remains uncertain, and they continue to live under the threat of expulsion.
