'Exasperated': Insiders say 'crazy' Trump antics have allies wondering if he wants to lose

Former President Donald Trump's "crazy" outbursts and "not-normal" rhetoric have Republican supporters wondering if he wants to lose on Nov. 5, according to a new CNN report.

Political reporter Kristen Holmes told CNN Sunday that Trump's allies are infuriated over campaign trail antics that include encouraging shooters and suggestive pantomime with a microphone.

"I talk to allies who are exasperated," Holmes said. "These allies are incredibly frustrated about the language he is using on the campaign trail, the darkness of the rhetoric."

Trump's supporters seemed equally unimpressed with Trump's ravings during campaign events, Holmes added.

"Listening to the rally, listening to the crowd, with Donald Trump on stage," Holmes said. "It certainly didn't sound as if they were receptive to the rants and rambles."

A panel of CNN political experts responded to this report by echoing the concerns of Trump's allies.

"Him being on message for 90 percent of his speech doesn't matter at all, because that's not what breaks through," political commentator Jonah Goldberg said. "He unloads with craziness, and that's what gets covered...it's the craziness that breaks through."

Lulu Garcia-Navarro, a New York Times podcast host, said she found Trump's rhetoric directed at the media strange, alarming and unhelpful.

"It's not normal and it's not right," Garcia-Navarro said. "Everything that he has done has sabotaged his campaign...I don't know of a single person, even people who like Donald Trump and support Donald Trump who think this is a winning message."

Conservative commentator Shermichael Singleton added he has spoken to several Trump supporters who back Garcia-Navarro's message and have one question: "What in the hell is the [former] president doing?"

"These are people who love Donald Trump and respect Donald Trump," Singleton said. "They are saying it's almost as if he doesn't want to win."
