New Delhi: While most young children are busy watching cartoons or just playing with toys, Anish Sarkar is racking his brains on the chessboard, which led him to set a new record on Friday. Anish, who lives in North Kolkata, became the youngest player in the world to achieve a FIDE rating at the age of just three years, eight months and 19 days.

Born in Kolkata:

Anish was born on 26 January 2021. He made his competitive chess debut in October at the West Bengal State Under-Nine Open Tournament. The youngster performed impressively in his first competition itself, scoring 5.5 points out of a possible eight.

Anish Sarkar defeated these two:

Meanwhile, he defeated two rated players – Arav Chatterjee and Ahilan Baishya. He finished 24th overall. Meanwhile, he also got a chance to play against India’s number one player and world-ranked fourth Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi.

Anish Sarkar Broke Tejas Tiwari’s record:

Anish then got a chance to play in the West Bengal State Under-13 Open in which he qualified to face five rated players. In this way, he got a preliminary rating of 1555 in the FIDE rating. He thus broke the record of India’s Tejas Tiwari who had achieved this feat at the age of less than five years.
