Police and forecasters say a tornado and severe thunderstorm have struck the Oklahoma City area, causing injuries and scattered damage. The Oklahoma City Police Department says six people have been transported to hospitals, while damage includes downed power lines, gas lines, trees and traffic signals and signs. PowerOutage.us says more than 53,000 customers were without power in the state. Television reports showed flipped cars, downed trees and power lines and damaged homes. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch for the area. A social media post by the agency’s office in Norman, Oklahoma, shortly before 1:30 a.m. reported a severe thunderstorm with a tornado moving through eastern Oklahoma City toward Midwest City and Tinker Air Force Base.
