New York City sees high voter turnout in early voting

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Within the first four days that early voting opened, nearly half a million votes were cast.

More than 140,000 votes were cast on the first day of early voting in New York City, according to Michael Ryan, executive director for the NYC Board of Elections.

Ryan and Vincent Ignizio, the deputy executive director for the NYC Board of Elections, sat down with PIX on Politics host Dan Mannarino to discuss the improvements in technology at polling sites and the benefits early voting offers.

"We have the electronics in the poll sites to have anticipated wait times posted on our websites so voters can plan accordingly," said Ryan.

"It's like Christmas shopping. If you wait until the last day to do your holiday shopping, you will have to wait in long lines to finish the process. If you wait until Election Day to vote, you might be stuck in a long line too," Ryan added.
