The Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield, Colo., operated by Landscapes Golf Management, hosted its second First Green program. Eighty-four sixth graders from Adams 12 Five Star Schools participated.

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America‘s (GCSAA) First Green is a science, technology, engineering, arts and math environmental outreach initiative that uses golf courses as a hands-on living laboratory for K-12 students.

Students learned about innovative tools and technology integral to maintaining the Broadlands golf course, participated in a soil and seed lab to touch and experience variations used, took to maintenance equipment under close staff supervision and were exposed to best practices in wildlife habitat management, water conservation and the math that goes along with it. They were provided lunch, transportation and, naturally, and an introduction to playing golf.
