MSNBC host reveals what strategists believe is behind Trump campaign's lagging ground game

MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend said Friday that she's hearing from insiders that Trump's ground game (the voter contact campaign) wasn't fully funded, and as a result, it's a fraction of the effort by Kamala Harris.

Speaking with Mark McKinnon, co-host of "The Circus," even far-right activist Charlie Kirk agrees that Harris is defeating Trump on the ground.

While McKinnon thinks the wind is at Harris' back, Sanders-Townsend said she believes it will be very close and come down to the last minute.

Host Andrea Mitchell said they're hearing reports that Harris's ground game is even better than that of Elon Musk, who is giving out $1 million checks for voter registrations.

"Donald Trump has outsourced the majority of his actual campaign ground game operations to Turning Point, which is Charlie Kirk's organization, and then Elon Musk," Sanders-Townsend said.

She cited Wired and NBC News reporting that it "hasn't been verified" that Musk's operation flew people into Michigan and Pennsylvania and demanded "astronomical numbers."

What she's hearing, however, is that there is a money issue.

"I talked to my strategists who are working on some of these races, and part of the issue is Donald Trump," Sanders-Townsend said. "His campaign did not transfer the amount of money that they thought they would get to some of these other party committees. And Donald Trump did not commit to a number of these fundraisers that would make a difference."

Meanwhile, Harris inherited her ground operation from President Joe Biden's campaign, which is going strong in seven battleground states.

"I think it's the reason if she is victorious, it will be because the infrastructure is strong," Sanders-Townsend continued.
