Rays Tank: St. Petersburg City Council approves $6.5M cleanup of Tropicana Field

The vote includes two separate contracts for $2.5 million in cleanup, and $4 million in remediation services.

The St. Petersburg City Council has approved an allocation of $6.5 million of funds to two companies for clean up the damage to Tropicana Field.

This includes $2.5 million for various waterproofing services on the existing structure, and an additional $4 million for “remediation services” which is cleanup of the environmental damage.

Importantly, none of these funds would be for repairs of existing damage.

Here’s more detail from WFLA on the $2.5 million contract with Hennessy Construction Services.

Under the agreement, Hennessy would perform emergency waterproofing and building protection services to minimize and avoid further damage to the Trop.

The work, which cannot exceed the $2.5 million limit, would include the following:

- Removal and disposal of fallen PTFE-damaged roof material from bleachers and the field,
- Removal and disposal of field turf, cushion material, and bulk soil,
- Provide temporary wall framing enclosures to prevent moisture intrusion at all stadium seating levels, club suites, press box suites, and other openings throughout the stadium,
- Provide interior waterproofing at all aluminum and concrete bleachers to seal all vertical and horizontal joints,
- Provide interior waterproofing of the scoreboard wall,
- Provide an allowance for field-level perimeter containment for roof drainage,
- Provide an allowance for waterproofing in areas to be defined,
- Overhead, CM fee, bonds, insurance and contingency

The secondary contract is with a company called BMS CAT — which specializes in Full Service Fire, Mold & Water Damage Restoration — for $4 million in remediation services, which would presumably be for addressing and resolving environmental contamination throughout the stadium.
