Jett Williams & Drew Gilbert Both Homer In AFL Action

Mets prospects across the board enjoyed strong outings in the Arizona Fall League on Thursday night, as the Scottsdale Scorpions cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Glendale Desert Dogs.

 

• CF Jett Williams: 2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB, BB (.837 OPS)
• RF Drew Gilbert: 1-for-4, HR (.862 OPS)

Williams crushed a solo home run, his second in the AFL this year, off Cincinnati Reds prospect Arij Fransen in the bottom of the sixth. He also logged an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth against Philadelphia Phillies farmhand Wesley Moore.

After reaching base three times on Wednesday, Gilbert remained on fire with a solo shot of his own against Fransen in the bottom of the seventh.

The two players have developed a strong bond throughout their time playing together, which Gilbert believes has been beneficial for the both of them.

“I mean, we got to spend a pretty good amount of time around each other [this year],” Gilbert said, per MLB.com’s Jesse Borek. “Just getting to know each other better. It’s nice to have somebody that you kind of push yourself with. It’s just good to have someone with the same mentality as you.”

Williams echoed a similar sentiment, stating that he hopes they patrol the field together at the big league level in the near future.

“I think it’s pretty cool just to have somebody out there that is very similar to you,” Williams said. “I feel like we play the game a little bit differently. He’s more crazy, I’m more calm. So I think it’s kind of perfect, like leveling each other out. But I think it would be awesome just to be able to play with him at Citi Field one day, hopefully next year.”

Ramirez turned in a perfect outing while striking out the side on 17 pitches. He was the only Mets prospect to pitch on Thursday after Jonathan Pintaro (who left with a trainer), Dylan Ross and Saul García all went the day prior.
