Röllakan
Röllakan is a minimalist seating collection by the Paris and New York-based designer, Pierre Yovanovitch. Combining French craftsmanship with vintage Swedish textiles, Röllakan takes strong inspiration from one of Yovanovitch’s favorite design influences: the Swedish Grace movement, which elegantly merges classic decorative elements with the minimalist restraint of Scandinavian design.
Building on the design of one of his signature furniture pieces, the Clam Chair — a simple, modern seat with an oakwood frame— Röllakan introduces a decorative twist with its hand-crafted Swedish upholstery.
Using vintage rugs made from a traditional flat-weaving technique called röllakan, Yovanovitch upholsters each chair with tightly woven rug textiles, resulting in fifteen unique seating pieces. Minimal in form, the chairs feature rounded backrests and seats, contrasted by the textural upholstery, which showcases interlocking colored patterns and geometric motifs inspired by Swedish folk art and nature.
Röllakan is available in a range of muted, earth-toned colors, achieved through the natural dyes typically used in röllakan rugs. Overall, the collection beautifully blends traditional and contemporary design, continuing Yovanovitch’s legacy of utilizing exceptional materials and craftsmanship.
