OiER
OiER is a minimalist space located in Seoul, South Korea, designed by Plainoddity. From the exterior, OiER resembles a minimalist showroom, drawing in passersby with its clean, streamlined design and understated signage. However, inside, the shop provides an intimate setting for makeup services, challenging traditional ideas of how a beauty space should function and look. A notable design element throughout the shop is the use of the Korean consonants derived from the name OiER. These simple forms are integrated into the handles, hardware, and other details of the furniture, creating the illusion that all pieces are part of a single brand collection.
Subtle touches like product tags and key maps reinforce this showroom-like aesthetic, maintaining a cohesive experience for visitors. The interior is divided into three key service areas: a waiting and class section, a hair and makeup area, and an eyelash treatment zone. These spaces are unified by an overall white color palette, with gray tones used for the walls and floors to serve as a neutral backdrop. The custom-designed furniture is tailored to each function, from sleek tables to bespoke dressing tables and cabinets. One standout feature is the triangular table in the waiting area, distinguished by its bold lemon hue and glossy finish.
Its shape and positioning near the facade make it a visual focal point, while an accompanying pendant light emphasizes the playful deception of the space’s identity. In the hair and makeup area, a custom-built dressing table integrates a counter and dual mirrors into a single piece of furniture. Horizontal lines and the use of wood and acrylic soften the stainless steel countertop, creating a comfortable yet modern environment. At the back of the space, a multifunctional cabinet serves the eyelash treatment area. It acts as a divider, sink, and storage space, cleverly separating the makeup services from the more private eyelash treatments.
