UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – Two teenagers were shot on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Halloween night, police said.
The shooting happened near West 71st Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 6:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Witnesses said that a group of teenagers were playing a dice game on West 71st Street when the shooting occurred.
A 17-year-old was shot in his leg, and a 19-year-old was shot in his arm, police said. Both were taken to hospitals.
A man who lives in the area described what he heard when the gunshots rang out.
“We were just coming in from trick-or-treating with my 5-year-old. We were going inside. We get upstairs ... Pop, pop, pop. Three gunshots go off. Kids start to scatter,” said Eric Papa, an Upper West Side resident. "My doorman said two kids tried to run into the building for their own safety."
No arrests have been made. Police are searching for two suspects who fled on a Citi Bike.
One suspect was wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and black pants and had a gray backpack, according to police. The other suspect was wearing a black hooded shirt and blue jeans, police said.
