Tottenham are already looking for Timo Werner’s replacement despite Man City goal
Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on Timo Werner’s future after Ange Postecoglou changed his mind about the German.
Timo Werner a long way down the pecking order
Even with Heung-min Son and Wilson Odobert being unavailable, Werner still failed to make Tottenham’s starting eleven for their clash against Crystal Palace last Sunday.
17-year-old Mikey Moore was handed a start in his place, and the former Chelsea man can have no complaints about that as his form has left a lot to be desired of late.
In fact, Ange Postecoglou had made it clear last week that the experienced wide-forward has to deliver more in terms of end product (Football.London).
However, Werner responded in the best way possible against Man City in the Carabao Cup by sparking a 2-1 win for Tottenham. The German winger kicked things off for the Lilywhites with a perfectly-timed run and finish from an early Dejan Kulusevski cross. Unfortunately, this still may not be enough to save him.
Tottenham make Werner decision
Spurs have the option of signing Werner permanently for £8.5m at the end of the season, but according to GiveMeSport, the Lilywhites have no intention of activating the option.
The report says that the 28-year-old does not have a long-term future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is expected to return to the Red Bull Arena at the end of the season.
In fact, the North London side have already started looking for his replacement and are actively scouting an attack-minded winger who is capable of being deployed on the left and right flank.
Ange Postecoglou has changed his mind
The outlet reveals that Postecoglou is an admirer of Werner’s profile, and it was the Spurs boss who was keen to re-sign him on loan in the recent summer window.
However, the 59-year-old has seemingly changed his mind about the Germany international, with Tottenham now determined to sign a wide-man who boasts more versatility.
The publication makes it clear that Spurs will not be able to cut short Werner’s loan spell in January unless any other interested party makes a proposal that is accepted by both Leipzig and the player himself.
