Janelle Monáe Wows in Unbelievable E.T. Halloween Costume

If there’s one person who can rival Heidi Klum’s famously creative Halloween costumes, it’s Janelle Monáe.

On Tuesday, the singer and actor “finally came back home,” revealing her astonishingly transformative Halloween costume on Instagram. “Starring yours truly as both E.T. & Janellllliott,” Monáe captioned the carousel of eight photos. “You finally came home. ????????????Welcome back E.T. ???? Thank you Google Maps.” Monet also tagged a whopping 25 people who helped her achieve her remarkable transformation.

Monáe, well-known for her creative Halloween costumes, recently told The Hollywood Reporter that she hopes to be for Halloween what Mariah Carey is for Christmas. “Halloween is such a happy space for me,” she said. “It has been since I was a kid. It opens a larger conversation of how do we become agents of joy? How do we become agents of happy? How do we become agents of imaginations? I’m just doing what I want to see more of. Bringing Halloween experiences and creative experiences is heart work, not hard work. I do this because my heart needs it.”

“At her core, she’s incredibly playful,” Monáe’s friend, the film director Janicza Bravo, told the outlet. “She hasn’t let go of who she might have been as a little girl. She still has that sparkle, that glimmer that a lot of us have lost somewhere along the way. The door never closed for her.”

E.T. and Elliot were hardly Monáe’s only costumes this season. Earlier this week, she posted a behind-the-scenes look at her transformation into a Frankenstein-style monster.
