Johnstown parents, kids approve of warmer trick-or-treating

JOHNSTOWN, Ohio (WCMH) -- There is a chance that Halloween night could end up being rainy and windy for central Ohio trick-or-treaters.

Because of this, a few communities decided to move their trick-or-treat up, so kids took to the neighborhoods in costume on Wednesday night instead of Thursday.

The weather was perfect for Johnstown trick-or-treaters on Wednesday night. The city announced on social media Tuesday that it would be moving the date up because of the potential for bad weather.

Parent Elizabeth Blamer said her kids were glad to not be in the rain.

“Last year was horrible, like, the kids did not have a good time at all last year, so I think this will be much better,” Blamer said.

Trick-or-treater Logan Holter was happy to be out on a clear night, saying he felt, “definitely very good because I hate rain.”

Some people on social media were happy about the change and parent Brynne Holter agreed.

“I think any chance to get out with good weather and just spend time with friends and family is just awesome,” Holter said.

“Much rather be warm and be having fun with friends than be rained on and cold,” parent Carlie Petry said.

But others on social media said the weather had never dictated trick-or-treating in the past so they were confused as to why the change happened this year.

“We’re excited to not be in the rain but it’s also frustrating because we’ve been here almost five years now and last year was really cold and windy and they did not change it so that was a little frustrating for the kids,” Blamer said. “They didn’t get to go for as long as they usually do."

It was also short notice, but kids and parents made it work.

“We’re very flexible. You know, you’ve got kids, you’ve got to be flexible,” Petry said.

“I know, for myself, I was planning on coming home early from work tomorrow,” parent Troy McGough said. “I had to switch my thing around but for me it was no big deal.”

And most parents who were out Wednesday night in Johnstown said they were happy to be trick-or-treating on a warm fall day.

“It was short notice, so I had to go get candy yesterday as well but we’re glad that we’re not going to be out in the rain tomorrow,” Blamer said.

The kids, though, said they would have been outside in costume no matter what the weather was.

“I would still go out in the rain, honestly, I don’t really care. Anything for candy,” said trick-or-treater Kenleigh McGough.

Most central Ohio communities decided not to change their trick-or-treating date, so rain or shine on Halloween night, lots of kids will be out in costumes collecting candy.
