Residence damaged
in fire during night

A two-alarm fire severely damaged a home in Novato on Wednesday but the residents got out without injuries, police said.

The fire happened at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at 1633 Novato Blvd., a 690-square-foot detached home between Diablo Avenue and Tamalpais Avenue. Emergency crews contained the fire to the property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cleanup project set
for boat launch area

The county parks department is organizing a volunteer cleanup event at the Black Point boat launch along the Petaluma River.

The event from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday will involve maintaining landscaping and picking up trash. The parks department plans to provide water and snacks and says volunteers should bring a water bottle and gloves.

Fire ignites near
homes on hillside

A fire burned a patch of vegetation Wednesday near hillside residences in Sausalito.

The fire was reported at about 1 a.m. Firefighters found an area of about 50 feet by 20 feet burning near a driveway at 144 Bulkley Ave., said Elysha Costella, a spokesperson for the Southern Marin Fire Protection District.

The fire involved brush and leaves, Costella said. Firefighters stopped its progress within minutes. The fire caused no injuries or structural damage.

The cause is under investigation.

Potential rainfall in
North Bay forecast

A cold weather system expected to arrive Friday could deliver a half-inch to an inch of rain in the North Bay, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency also forecast a 10% to 15% chance of thunderstorms on Friday into Saturday, with “gusty onshore winds.”

Warmer and drier weather is expected on Sunday and early next week.
