What's the biggest pumpkin that's ever been grown in the US?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN/NEXSTAR) — It's pumpkin patch season. But in honor of National Pumpkin Day, we have to ask — just how big have pumpkins gotten in the U.S.?

Fortunately, the Indiana Pumpkin Growers' Association (IPGA) has kept tabs on the heaviest pumpkins grown around the world. The IPGA takes a state, province, or country's top 10 heaviest officially weighed pumpkins to find a place's average weight in pounds. Out of the 69 states, countries, and provinces represented, New York finished as the state with the largest pumpkins on average in the country. With an average weight of 2,365.2 lbs, the Empire State finished second overall behind the United Kingdom (2,415.9 lbs).

As for individual pumpkins, the heaviest pumpkin on the list in the U.S. — and the world — was grown in Minnesota last year and weighed 2,749 lbs. Grown by Travis Gienger out of Anoka, he also has the third-largest pumpkin on record in the U.S. with a 2,560 lb pumpkin that he grew in 2022.

Oklahoma's heaviest pumpkin on the list weighed in at about 844 pounds.

The rest of the world had quite a few large pumpkins too, the heaviest pumpkin in the United Kingdom came in at 2,656 lbs. A pumpkin in Belgium weighed 2,624 lbs, a pumpkin in Spain weighed 2,551 lbs, and a pumpkin in Italy was the second largest pumpkin in the world at 2,702 lbs.
