Fury as killjoy Labour council scraps BONFIRE at fireworks display claiming it is too smoky
WOKE killjoys have scrapped the bonfire at a fireworks show.
Council chiefs axed it from this Saturday’s event claiming it is too smoky.
The move by Labour-run Erewash Borough Council for the Starry Skies Spectacular in Long Eaton, Derbys, has been slammed by residents.
Nicholas Gaunt, 37, described it as “wokery gone mad”.
He added: “What kind of bonfire night is it without a bonfire? It’s good to think of the environment but these are traditions that bring the community together.”
Another local said: “If we can’t have bonfires soon there will be nothing left for us to look forward to.”
A poster for the event said, unlike in previous years, there would be no blaze due to the “council’s environmental responsibility”.
A council publication adds: “This includes a reduction in air pollution which can have an impact on people affected by respiratory diseases.”
The council confirmed the move, saying: “The comment on the poster sums it up. It’s environmental concerns.”
OASIS FLAMED OVER TICKETS
LIAM and Noel Gallagher will go up in smoke on Guy Fawkes Night — along with an 11m Ticketmaster effigy.
Bonfire chiefs in Edenbridge, Kent, said they are fans of Oasis but are looking back in anger at dynamic pricing.
