Legal analysts crack up laughing over possible Trump appointee 'out on bail'

0

A list of possible Donald Trump appointees was leaked and legal analysts couldn't stop laughing about his choices to lead the Justice Department.

One of the possible attorney general spots could go to Judge Aileen Cannon, who was number two on the list, ABC News reported last week. Cannon notably dismissed the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump over the summer, ruling that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith was unconstitutional.

"There's no proof, obviously, that he put her on the list in return for her dismissal of the Florida case, or whether he put her there so she could use her 93-page ruling calling [special counsel] Jack Smith inappropriately appointed and funded as a pretext to fire him," said "Jack" podcast co-host Allison Gill.

She said that it adds a "wrinkle."

Gill's co-host, former FBI official Andrew McCabe, called it a curious thought experiment.

However, the one potential nominee who led to laughs on the "Jack" podcast was Jeffrey Clark, a former DOJ official who is among the defendants in the Georgia 2020 election racketeering case.

"Oh, great," said McCabe when Gill read Clark's name from the list.

"He was the guy who almost tubed the Justice Department the last time he was there," said McCabe.

"He's out on bail!" exclaimed Gill, as the two broke into laughter. "Come on. You want to make the top cop ..."

"Awkward!" said McCabe. "Mr. Attorney General, your parole officer is here."

The two cracked up again.

"Hey, you don't wear a tie to the office," Gill said, mimicking a potential question of the hypothetical Clark. "Well, I gotta meet my parole officer."

"No shoelaces, Mr. Attorney General?" McCabe laughed. "What happened to those?"
