CTBC Brothers win their 10th Taiwan Series Title

Once again, the 20,000 fans in the sold-out Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium witnessed their hometown team, CTBC Brothers, clinch the Taiwan Series. It's their second title in three years.

Brothers outfielder Sung-En Sung was named MVP of the Series as he went 11-for-21 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Jose DePaula, who won the first and the clinching game, was named Outstanding Player of the Series along with Lions Chia-Wei Lin. DePaula is the first foreign player in the history of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) to be honoured with the award twice.

The
Series opened at Taipei Dome and attracted a sold-out 40,000 fans, setting anew CPBL record for the most-attended Taiwan Series game in history.

The Brothers overcame the three-run deficit in Game One and defeated the Lions, 10-4. Lions ace Jui-Yang Gu-Lin was taken out of the game after three innings due to injury, which led to his withdrawal from the upcoming Premier12 in November. Jose DePaula, who will represent the Dominican Republic in the WBSC Premier12 presented by RAXUS, went for seven innings and collected his fourth Taiwan Series win in five starts.

The Lions bounced back the next day and collected their first win of the Series, 10-3.

Series returned to the Lions’ hometown in Tainan for Game Four. However, a fullhouse of hometown fans only saw their one-run lead disappear after the fifthinning as the Brothers took their third win, 6-4.

The Series then shifted back to the Brothers' home field in Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, with the Brothers one win away from clinching the title. The Lions scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but that was all they could come up with. It proved their last run scored in this year's Series. The Brothers claimed the lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back, clinching the 10th title in franchise history with the score of 4-1.

New attendance record

Withthe inauguration of the Taipei Dome this year, the Taiwan Series also sawnew attendance records. 132,625 fans participated in the five-game series, withan average of 26,525 fans per game, setting the new Taiwan Series record of the35-year-old CPBL.
