Why the Bears Loss to the Commanders Just Got Even Uglier

0

The Bears fell to 4-3 after a heartbreaking loss to the Washington Commanders. The game ended in dramatic fashion, as Jayden Daniels completed a hail mary pass reminiscent of an Aaron Rodgers hail mary, shattering the hopes of Bears fans nationwide. While the Bears defense and special teams held their ground, the offensive performance was rough. Looking back, this loss feels even worse than I initially realized.

The Bears are in dangerous waters.

Although this loss is painful, what truly stings is how it impacts the Bears playoff chances. The NFC North remains on a historic pace, but the Bears loss now leaves them falling behind, struggling to keep up with the other three teams in the division. Here’s where things stand in the NFC North after Sunday:

Lions: 6-1

Packers: 6-2

Vikings: 5-2

Bears: 4-3

Winning on Sunday would have been huge for the Bears and their playoff hopes, keeping them firmly in the race for the division crown. However, the Bears couldn’t consistently move the ball, couldn’t defend a hail mary, and had multiple other setbacks.

Heading into the game, the Bears had a 40% chance of making the playoffs, which would have certainly increased with a win, giving the team a bit of room for error as well. Now, the missed opportunities in the Colts and Commanders games will stand out as painful reminders for fans, players, and coaches alike as the season progresses. Sure, it still is early in the season. But it is looking more and more like the Bears will be fighting for a wild card spot.
