Jerod Mayo Chooses New Word To Describe Patriots After Victory

Jerod Mayo’s “soft” remark after the Patriots fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London dominated headlines all week long. New England took it upon itself to respond and properly did so with a 25-22 win over the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium.

When Mayo met with the media after Sunday’s game, he had a different word to describe the Patriots.

“I don’t think I’ve ever really questioned the resilience of this team,” Mayo told reporters, per team-provided video. “I’m not going to go back to those comments. What I will say is that we have a room full of guys with the mentality that you got to change the page every day. Every day’s a new day and we have to get better and understand that practice is the most important thing we do until we get to the game.”

New England’s “resilience” probably won’t get the same media run as the “soft” comments, but Mayo’s team did take a step in the right direction to earn the first win for the Patriots since Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. New England showed resilience Sunday with a comeback victory driven by Jacoby Brissett, who entered the game when starting quarterback Drake Maye exited with a concussion. The Patriots, who entered without key players on defense, defeated a talented yet underperforming Jets team for the victory.

The win for the Patriots prevented the Jets from sweeping New England for the first time since 2000.
