Cyprus marks Oxi Day with parades across the island

Cyprus will mark ‘Ohi Day’ on Monday, commemorating Greece’s refusal to permit Axis troops to enter its territory during World War II on October 28, 1940.

In Nicosia, President Nikos Christodoulides is scheduled to preside over a student parade in front of the Greek Embassy. The President, alongside Education Minister Athena Michaelidou, will begin the day attending a religious service at Ayios Barnabas Cathedral in Nicosia, led by Archbishop Georgios.

Similar religious services and parades will take place across the island. Following the church service, Christodoulides will receive the parade salute, joined by Michaelidou, Greek Ambassador Ioannis Papameletiou, and other political and military representatives.
