Casa Fluida
Casa Fluida is a minimalist home located in Singapore, designed by typeface. The homeowners, a family of four, lead an active lifestyle and enjoy spending quality time together. The design brief was centered around creating a home that fulfilled both partners’ needs, with a particular focus on the wife’s vision. A large sofa was essential for family movie nights and weekend lounging, posing a design challenge as the furniture’s size could disrupt the flow of the living area. To address this, the design incorporates gradual curves and layered textures, softening the space and promoting a seamless flow. Curved walls create a sense of fluidity throughout the home, while contrasting materials, such as polished furniture against rough stucco and timber finishes, break up the rigid layout.
The warm, earthy texture of stucco and the natural feel of wood balance the home’s modern elements. The original space was a standard new condominium, with glossy tiles and a constricted feel, despite the double-height ceiling in the living area. To transform it, microcement flooring replaced the original tiles, and the living and dining spaces were subtly divided with warm timber. The layout of the dry kitchen was reconfigured to house a short-throw projector, aligning the living area towards the kitchen, creating a cohesive and flexible entertainment space. A standout feature of the redesign is the flush feature wall, which conceals doors and creates a seamless connection between the dining area, bedrooms, and dry pantry.
This design element eliminates the visual disruption of doorways, allowing the corridor to take on a gallery-like quality. One of the bedrooms was repurposed into a walk-in wardrobe, and the master bathroom was opened up to create an en suite, enhancing visibility and flow. Each room carries distinct design elements. The foyer, clad in textured stucco, features full-height mirrors that expand the space. In the living and dining area, custom pendants by Sergey Maknos draw the eye upward to the lofty ceilings, while curved elements conceal functional features like curtain pelmets and projector screens. The entire space, wrapped in stucco and softened with linen curtains, balances natural textures with sleek furnishings, such as the Roche Bobois dining table.
Ambient lighting, achieved through pendants and wall lights, reinforces the cozy, intimate atmosphere. The bathrooms, completely re-tiled to match the home’s aesthetic, saw the most dramatic change in the master bath. The layout was reworked to allow for a larger shower, while natural light now flows in through an expanded opening. Large-format tiles amplify the room’s luxurious feel. In contrast to the bright living spaces, the master bedroom adopts a darker, more masculine palette. Strong design features like a stone-like wall behind the bed create a bold statement, while the continuation of microcement flooring into the bedroom maintains the home’s cohesive aesthetic.
