Almost two tonnes of waste collected in Paphos clean-up
Around two tonnes of rubbish were collected during a clean-up on Saturday which included that found in the sea off Paphos.
A total of 180 children took part in a clean up of the beach from the Limanaki to Ta Bania, AKTI research organisation’s Anna Tselepou said, collecting around 130kg of rubbish.
Meanwhile, 22 divers and six fishermen pulled around 1,800kg of rubbish out of the sea in just one and a half hours.
Tselepou said a lot of tyres and pipes were found that had been thrown into the sea, with the former accounting for 25kg of the haul.
Divers also pulled 67 car wheels out of the sea.
The clean-up was organised by the Ports Authority and groups taking part included those from Akti, the American University of Beirut Meditteraneo, Tepak and the Pafos FC, Atlantas and Aiantas football academies.
