'Consistently exaggerating': CNN fact checker drops the hammer on J.D. Vance

0

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale on Friday whacked Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) for falsely claiming that the Biden administration is forcing American car companies to only manufacture electric cars, which Vance said would cost thousands of autoworker jobs.

"The Biden-Harris administration has not forced and is not forcing Americans to buy electric vehicles," Dale said. "And Vice President Harris isn't proposing forcing people to buy electric vehicles. Nobody's taking away your gas-powered car."

Dale the provided some context as to what the rules are actually doing.

"What the administration did do is introduce strict new tailpipe rules to require car companies to reduce emissions from the new vehicles they make," he said. "The companies will have to build more EVs for sure to meet these new pollution limits, but here's the key: They won't have to solely build EVs. They can build hybrids, they can make gas-powered cars more efficient. The new rules aim to have electric vehicles make up 35 percent to 56 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2032."

To sum up the situation, Dale concluded that "Trump, Vance, and the campaign... are all consistently exaggerating what the Biden-Harris administration is actually doing."
