Anna Kendrick’s Haunting Netflix Thriller Soars Up the Streaming Top 10 | Chart

0

Streaming audiences clearly adore the bad guys, especially this time of year. Last week’s Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report was topped by supervillains, convicted murderers, and heroes who called themselves “Bad Boys.” Those titles return to the chart this week, with the addition of new serial killer content to help satisfy streaming viewers’ bloodlust.

Even with a new challenger, “The Penguin” still rules the roost. The Emperor of Gotham City’s criminal underworld has been an absolute smash success for Max/HBO and has topped the streaming charts every single week it has been on the air.

In second place is the “Woman of the Hour.” Anna Kendrick directs and stars in the Netflix thriller, which tells the story of serial killer Rodney Alcala appearing as a contestant on “The Dating Game” – and somehow winning – amid his late ‘70s murder spree.

There are more bad boys to be found on the chart, but let’s first look at the good guys for a second. “The Lincoln Lawyer” returned to Netflix for its third season on Oct. 17, and one million households watched the first episode in the first four days it was available. This helped the title earn its spot at No. 3 in this week’s top 10.

No. 6 is the Hulu and FX action series “The Old Man,” in which Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow team up for a high-stakes rescue mission. At No. 8, there is some questionable heroism in the form of “Outer Banks,” the Netflix adventure series about treasure-hunting teenagers.

There’s love to be found, too, mostly on Netflix. “Love is Blind” season seven comes in at No. 5, while the rom-com series “Nobody Wants This” sticks on the charts at No. 7 this week, its fourth consecutive week in the Top 10.

Now, back to the bad. “Tulsa King,” a Paramount+ hit that has continued to land on the chart since its second season debuted, comes in at No. 4 this week. The series stars Sylvester Stallone as a New York mafia boss setting up a new business in Oklahoma after getting out of prison. This is the series’ fifth consecutive week in the streaming Top 10.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, who have been the heroic “Bad Boys” for nearly 30 years, star in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” coming in at No. 9 this week. It’s followed by “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which tells the story of the infamous Menendez brothers’ murder of their parents. Similar to “The Penguin” and “Tulsa King,” “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” sticks on the charts for its fifth consecutive week this week.

This week’s linear chart may induce a feeling of déjà vu, as the top four most-watched programs remain the same. Two episodes of NBC’s “The Voice” top the chart, followed by the scripted drama “Tracker” on CBS. The latest episode of “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC closes out the opening quartet.

That repeat top four is followed by a trio of popular scripted series. “Chicago Med” (NBC) is No. 5, FBI (CBS) is No. 6, and we’re back to Illinois for “Chicago Fire” (NBC) for No. 7.

The “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” star, Michael Keaton, hosted “Saturday Night Live” this week, helping the show come in at No. 8.

Rounding out the list are Monday and Tuesday airings of “Wheel of Fortune” on ABC.

The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most watched movies and TV series from the past week across both streaming and linear television sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households, balanced to the U.S. Census.
