'Just letting off steam': Fox News host gives stunning excuse for Trump's Hitler comment

Fox News host and media analyst Howard Kurtz argued that former President Donald Trump was "just letting off steam" by openly wishing that he had Adolf Hitler's generals.

Retired four-star general John Kelly revealed in a recent interview that Trump allegedly made the remark while president. Kurtz said Thursday that he did not doubt Kelly's story.

"Well, first of all, I think that John Kelly is a highly respected four-star who lost a son in Afghanistan," Kurtz explained. "And I don't believe that he is making things up."

"However, at the same time, Trump may have just been letting off steam about the loyalty he wanted from his generals compared to what he thought about Hitler's generals," the Fox News host added. "And I think that it's obviously not something that was made for public consumption."

On Wednesday, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade also defended Trump's desire to have Hitler's generals.

"I could absolutely see him going out. You know what?" Kilmeade said. "It would be great to have German generals that actually do what we asked them to do, knowing that's a third, maybe not fully, fully being cognizant of the third rail of German generals who are Nazis and whatever."
