KU student short film 'Matchbox' shot in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A University of Kansas film student is creating a new movie shot in the Capital City.

KU student Audrey Merckling chose to shoot her short film, "Matchbox," at Lake Shawnee. The film is about family reunions on the lake and the "Midwest experience."

"It worked out perfectly, about it being in Topeka, I got like during scenes driving in Topeka, and just seeing that landscape, the bare prairies and open land or whatever, and I just think it painted a really good picture having it in Topeka," Merckling said.

Merckling said the 2004 movie "Napoleon Dynamite" was a big inspiration for this project. Twenty students from KU worked together to make this film happen.

"Matchbox" will premier at KU's film awards. You can learn more about KU's Film & Media Studies programs by clicking here.
