Man trying to break into car shot by owner in Austin

A man trying to break into a vehicle was shot by the owner early Thursday in Austin on the West Side.

Around 2:25 a.m., a 53-year-old man tried breaking into a car in the 300 block of North Mayfield Avenue when he was confronted by the owner, Chicago police said.

A struggle followed and the owner fired one shot, striking the man in the shoulder, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, officials said.
