Ville Platte Police officer arrested, charged with malfeasance in office
VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Ville Platte Police officer was arrested and charged with malfeasance in office after letting two suspects in a shooting go without cause, authorities said.
According to the Ville Platte City Marshal's Office, Lumus Lastrapes was taken into custody Monday night in connection with arrests made Friday night at a high school football game.
Two men were arrested following a shooting near Ville Platte High School during the school's homecoming football game when they were found with a gun in a gun-free zone.
At least one of the men, identified by Ville Platte Marshals as Lawrence Pitre, was a friend or relative of Lastrapes, authorities said.
Officials said Lastrapes allowed the two men to go free while City Marshals were obtaining warrants. The men allegedly told Lastrapes the Marshals were planning to release them.
The two men who were released are still wanted, and are still at large, officials said.
Lastrapes was taken into custody Monday night without incident, authorities said. He was released on $10,000 bond.
