LaGuardia Airport named the best airport in the United States: Forbes Travel Guide

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- An airport in New York City was named the best airport in the United States by Forbes Travel Guide.

The inaugural Air Travel Awards were based on a survey of 5,000 hospitality and travel experts, and the guide's most well-traveled fliers. 22 awards were announced, ranging from top airports to best airlines.

LaGuardia Airport in Queens was selected as the best airport in the United States. Forbes Travel Guide Editor Jennifer Kester wrote:

"After a recent $8 billion overhaul, the Queens, New York, airport impresses with bright, airy spaces; more check-in kiosks and security lanes; and NYC foodie favorites like H&H Bagels and Junior’s."

“From the very start, our mission at LaGuardia Airport was to transform what was once the worst airport in the nation into an airport that would rival the best in the world,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Today’s award from Forbes Travel Guide is further proof that with our private partners, Delta Air Lines and LaGuardia Gateway Partners, we have created a new LaGuardia Airport that is no longer a national laughingstock, but something our entire region and country can be proud of.”

Meanwhile, Delta One at John F. Kennedy International Airport won the Best U.S. Airline Lounge award. "The first lounge dedicated to Delta One passengers debuted in June with an expansive 39,707-square-foot space that includes a year-round terrace, nine relaxation pods, eight shower suites, and a full-service brasserie," wrote Kester.
