Is Antoine Semenyo on his way to Spurs?

A number of outlets over recent weeks have suggested that Spurs have been impressed by Semenyo’s performances for the Cherries at the start of the season.

This included an update by TBR Football earlier this month, which suggested that the Lilywhites are plotting a move for the 24-year-old ahead of January.

On Sunday, Football Insider offered an even bigger boost to Tottenham by revealing that the winger is flattered by reports linking him with a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side and that he would be open to following Dominic Solanke to N17.

Semenyo’s Arsenal admission

However, the Bournemouth star’s latest confession comes as a potential blow for Tottenham as he revealed that he grew up as an Arsenal fan.

However, the attacker also opened up about his ambitions of playing for a top club in the future, which Spurs and other suitors would take note of.

Ahead of Bournemouth’s clash against Arsenal, Semenyo told The Athletic: “I am an Arsenal fan. I don’t conflate the two with my job. It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen I need to prove it.

“Yeah, any team that plays Champions League, Europa (League) — that’s the aim. I know that’s not going to come with a click of my fingers, it’s going to take some time.

“It’s going to take goals. It’s going to take a lot of consistent performances. But I’ve worked all my life for that and I’m just going to continue working hard. That’s my mentality.”

Unlikely to have a bearing on future decision

Who a player grew up supporting hardly ever matters when it comes to making a decision on transfers as players naturally tend to do what is best for their careers.

Semenyo is certainly not going to turn down the chance to move to Spurs purely because he grew up supporting Arsenal.

However, should the Gunners also enter the race for Ghanian, one would expect them to have a huge advantage over Spurs, given the winger’s allegiances.
