Quincy Olivari might be the most wholesome story in the NBA
After being an unknown heading into Lakers training camp, Quincy Olivari has quickly become the most wholesome player in the NBA.
Three weeks ago, few NBA fans knew of Quincy Olivari, an undrafted rookie who had played five years of college basketball between Rice and Xavier. In fact, it was his anonymity that initially caused him to go viral.
But fast forward to the end of the preseason and he is far from anonymous. Ahead of the regular season, Olivari was signed by the Lakers to a two-way contract, a well-earned reward for someone who has quickly become a fan favorite.
On the court, he’s done more than enough to endear himself to Lakers Nation. He helped the team secure their first preseason win with a wild comeback in Milwaukee. Then, in the finale against Golden State, he was one of the only bright spots for a Lakers team resting most of their team.
But off the court, Olivari has also quickly established himself as one of the most wholesome players in the NBA. Whether it was bringing his resume to scouts or meeting one of his childhood idols, every story about Olivari paints a picture of one of the most wholesome players in the NBA.
To start, though, let’s go all the way back to his season at Xavier, just to show that this is how he’s always been. Olivari held a contest for an autograph and, after a mistake meant one of the winners wouldn’t receive their prize, he went above and beyond to make it up.
A young fan, Lily, entered a contest to win @quincyolivari autograph. By accident, Lily’s mom sent Quincy the wrong address to send the autograph. Once he found out, Olivari got in his car and drove to Lily’s house to surprise her. No one, not even Lily’s mom, knew this was… pic.twitter.com/exeAxv80FQ

As Olivari was grinding to make it to the NBA, he had a very unorthodox approach. When meeting with scouts and teams, Olivari carried with him a copy of his resume because, in his words, this was a job interview.

Asked Quincy why he had copies of his resume.
He replied “this is a job interview for me, who shows up to a job interview without a resume?”

Once he reached the NBA with the Lakers, Olivari had perhaps his most viral moment during Media Day. In the background of a shot on TV, Olivari could be seen taking a selfie with LeBron James.
Still an unknown at the time, it prompted the very direct question on Twitter, “Who tf is #41?”

As you would probably expect, Olivari took the comments completely in stride, embracing the jokes and memes himself.

The moment that likely reached the most fans, though, came late in the preseason against the Warriors when Olivari met Steph Curry pregame. By this point, Olivari had made enough waves that players around the league had noticed, including Steph, who was one of Olivari’s favorite players growing up.
As a kid, Olivari had a Warriors jersey signed by Steph. So, when the two got to meet as peers during the preseason, it hit differently for Olivari, who showed his emotions talking about the moment postgame.

All the while during this, Olivari impressed enough in games and in practice to warrant the Lakers waiving Colin Castleton to sign Olivari to a two-way contract.
Seeing anyone accomplish their NBA dream is a joy to watch, but especially so for someone like Olivari, who is quickly proving to be one of the most wholesome people imaginable, and not just in the NBA.
